What to wear

Hopefully the hints below help to make the daunting task of choosing outfits for your session a little more enjoyable! Reach out if I can be of anymore assistance Xx K.

Co-ordinate & compliment

Gone are the days of khaki’s and matching white shirts or denim jeans and black shirts. Matching each other is uninspiring and dated. If you want to create timeless images, choose colors that complement each other and allow yourself to shine through. I usually recommend choosing 3 or 4 colours and having everyone dress in those shades.

Avoid brand names, logos or large graphics across clothing as it tends to be quite distracting in the images.

Solids, stripes and patterns are all great but try to create a balance to avoid making the image seem too 'busy'.

Consider the season & location of your session

 Once you have determined where your shoot will take place consider which style of clothing will fit the background the most naturally. 

Generally casual clothing is most suited to a natural outdoor session.  If doing an urban themed session both casual or formal tend to look great!

I love neutral colour palettes and find that they photograph well in almost every location, in every season.

Layers, textures & more

This is where the magic can happen. Use layers to add dimension to your image while allowing you to easily change up your look by mixing and taking off layers. You can also utilize them to interact with each other. Textures are important as they create a visually interesting photo and look amazing in a black and white image. They add an extra depth to your images, so have fun pulling out a knitted sweater, lace and embroidery, ruffles and ribbons, and even tweed. Lastly never forget those accessories. Use jackets and vests to create a polished look, jewelry is great for adding a pop of color, flowers and headbands can enhance the girl feeling. Just be careful to not outshine you. You are the STAR and I don’t want an oversized headband to allow you to get lost in the image.
